Even while many of us live comfortably and happily, people around our neighborhood and around the globe are facing untold problems, ranging from poverty to disease. Thankfully, there are many charitable groups out there working to help their fellow men, women, and children to live better, happier lives, and the many charity walks they hold each year give anyone who wants to lend a hand – or a pair of legs – the opportunity to get involved.
Indulge yourself and your fellow human beings in a variety of fun and exciting ways by participating in any one of these four charity walk initiatives around the world to do good while traveling:
No matter who you are or where you hail from, it is likely that breast cancer has affected your life or that of someone you know, making raising money to fight it one of the most universally embraced causes in the world.
The Moon Walk aims to make things even more interesting, inviting all participants to dress up as their favorite space-dwelling denizen, from abstract martians to characters from science fiction films and books, providing everyone with a fun and unforgettable way to walk the streets of London in a show of support for women battling breast cancer.
When and Where: Britain’s capital of jolly old London will provide a historical backdrop to this year’s Moon Walk for Breast Cancer on May 11, 2013.
Take in the stunning magnitude of the Rocky Mountains along Canada’s west coast, raising money for those suffering from terminal illnesses like cancer all the while, by taking part in the Canadian Rockies Trek 2013!
Not for the faint of heart, this trek will last eight days, taking you along beautiful mountain trails and giving you a real taste of the breathtaking landscape surrounding you with every step! All proceeds go to help support those facing death due to a potentially curable disease, with funds going towards both general care and continued research.
When and Where: The Canadian Rockies Trek 2013 will take place from September 21-28, 2013 in the Yoho National Park in British Columbia, Canada.
Hosted by Global Adventure Challenges, a group well-known for its commitment to worthy causes and extraordinary walks, this event will see participants take a five-day hike along the world’s largest man made structure: the Great Wall of China.
Weaving its way through the Chinese countryside, this walk offers a unique experience that, while demanding, will suit people of all shapes, sizes and ages, making it a great way for anyone to show their support for the charity of their choice, and allowing them to experience the beauty and accomplishments of China with every step!
When and Where: If you’ve ever needed an excuse to visit the blooming nation of China, this is it! The two 2013 iterations of the Great Wall Trek will begin on May 11, 2013 and October 5, 2013 respectively, giving you two chances to get in on the action. You may grab a Tourist Pass for easier travel.
Another Global Adventure Challenge that allows every participant to donate money raised to the charity of their choice, this trek will see walkers follow the footsteps of the ancient Inca people of South America, following age-old paths through the Andes Mountains, and making for an experience that you’re not likely to ever forget!
When and Where: Beginning on dates in May, September, and November, 2013, the Inca Trail Trek winds through mountainous paths deep in the Andes, beginning in the beautiful country of Peru.
