5 Fun Crafts For You And Your Family

These days it can seem impossible to pull your kids away from the computer long enough to ask them a question, let alone have a full conversation with them. So when it comes to spending time with your children, you can be forgiven for wanting to do something that does not involve a screen. One of the most rewarding ways to spend time with your family is to create something together. Not only is this a great way to have fun together, but it will give you something that you can keep to remember it by. Don’t know what that something might be? Here are five ideas to get you started.

Advent Calendar
The holidays are the best time to make things to display in your house. You can make all kinds of decorations or food and your kids will love it. One example is a homemade advent calendar. You can create it out of felt, or even just different colored cardstock. Make pouches for each day leading up to Christmas, and each year you can fill them with chocolate or your favorite candy.

Mugs
You can never have too many mugs, and they are the easiest things to decorate. You can grab some paint and do it yourself, letting each child do their own. Another great idea is to create a pattern, and send it to a professional company who can make personalized photo mugs. It is a great way to create something that is all your own, but looks professional.

Cakes
This is often a kid’s favorite kind of craft – the edible kind! Have fun baking a cake with your kids. Then let them go to town with frosting and decorate the cake however they want. It’ll be hard to keep those little fingers out of that cake batter, but once it’s finished, the hardest part may be eating your masterpiece!

Kites
Making a kite is surprisingly simple, and fun at the same time. It may require some trial and error, but getting the kite to fly is the funnest part of the experience. Make a kite, try it out, and keep going until each child has his or her perfect kite.

 Animal Crafts
If you have a pet, it can be really fun to make something for them as a family. You can make a toy for your cat or dog. Or perhaps something to add to the fish tank. If you do not have any pets, try making a birdhouse or a bird feeder. For those who really don’t like animals, you can always just make sock puppets!
