New York is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the United States. The city is known for its fine dining, rich culture, leading-edge fashions and unparalleled shopping opportunities.
There are several ports in New York which cater to cruise ships. The most well-known cruise terminal is the one on the West Side of Manhattan, which has been catering to passengers for many years. The Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruise lines usually call at the Cape Liberty Cruise port, while Cunard and Princess often use the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. Smaller vessels, such as those used by American Cruise Lines, make use of the Chelsea Recreational Piers on the iconic Hudson River.
Getting Around New York
The main bus terminals in New York are the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Grand Central Terminal. There are shuttle services running from the main ports to these transport hubs. Taxis are readily available. Some taxi routes are fixed fare (not including tolls), while others are metered.
Manhattan is laid out in a grid pattern, with several Avenues, each of which has streets running off it. Manhattan has an East Side and a West Side, with 5th Avenue serving as the dividing line between the two. There is also a Downtown, Midtown and Uptown. This grid-based layout makes it easy to navigate the city.
For most people, walking is the preferred mode of transport, however there are affordable subways and bus services available, as well as taxi services. There are around 12,000 Yellow Cabs operating in Manhattan. You do not need to book a cab in advance, you can simply hail them when you need them.
