Clogged pores are one of the super common skincare complaints in the present day, occupying almost the same rank as acne and aging skin. Dead skin cells, excess oils and dirt can get trapped in pores and bring about clogged pores and other blemishes like acne, blackhead, and Whitehead. If you have clogged pores, you know that you are not the only one dealing with this problem – many other people you see in the streets are facing it.
We recently consulted a professional esthetician for her recommendations on how to prevent clogged pores. Having been in the dermatology practice for over 25 years, she gave us a comprehensive guide on how to clean clogged pores and avoid future issues. The following is a step-by-step guide on practical ways to get your pores clean.
Cleanse Your Face Twice a Day
An oily complexion makes pores appear larger than usual. Cleansing two times a day can unclog pores, reduce oiliness, and prevent clogging of pores in the future. You will want to cleanse your face using warm water daily.
Avoid hot water because it can irritate your skin and cause pores to look larger. Also, wash your face gently and avoid scrubbing. Scrubbing can cause inflammation and make pores look more noticeable than usual.
You need to cleanse your face using a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser. You want to stop irritation as much as possible when unclogging your pores. So, find gentle cleansers that do not irritate your skin.
Get Manual Extractions
You can do extractions on your own or find a trusted esthetician to help remove them for you. As much as skincare companies make us believe that products can remove them, they will NOT. It is probably the hardest pill to swallow, but it is the truth.
Even a pore-clearing strip or a sonic cleansing brush – such as Clarisonic – may not yield the results when it comes to getting your pores clean. You must gently extract out any blockage of hardened oil that affects your pore. You may have to do this every two weeks for a while depending on how fast they home out.
Activated Charcoal Facial Mask
The activated charcoal mask offers one of the best methods for clearing clogged pores. It does absorb and bring out excess oils and impurities from deep inside the pores. Facial masks can clean your clogged pores and introduce a better complexion.
Do not be afraid if charcoal gets stuck in your pores. Just sleep on it and expect to find the results in the morning. You can also make a mask from oatmeal, Fuller’s Earth and water. Sandalwood and rose water are equally a compelling choice when it comes to making your skin look better.
Wear Your Daily SPF
Sun damage is one of the leading causes of aging, in addition, the natural aging process. It does break down elastin and collagen, thus thickening the surface of your skin. When the skin’s structure is broken down, the opening of the pore expands and becomes larger than normal.
Wearing daily sun protection is a perfect way to stop any more sun damage from accumulating. Choose a formula that has a minimum level of SPF 20 then layer on each day before makeup and after moisturizer. Make sure to cover everywhere including your chest, arms, and neck.
