TripAdvisor is making trailblazing tracks in how hospitality companies are recognised for their excellence in the industry. TripAdvisor gave out its Certificate of Excellence Awards in hospitality for the fifth year running in May 2015, with London winning top marks across the board.
Certificates of Excellence are awarded to around ten per cent of businesses listed on TripAdvisor. They showcase the crème de la crème across the sector, including hotels, restaurants and attractions.
Rather than being decided by a board of stuffy judges, it is public opinion that decides which companies make the grade. TripAdvisor uses a special algorithm that looks at the quantity of high-quality ratings, along with their recency, to determine which businesses deserve to be awarded a Certificate of Excellence.
The businesses that win these awards provide more than just great service; for example, they are also hailed for cleanliness. Top hospitality companies in London buy commercial warewashers through firms such as www.247cateringsupplies.co.uk/bar-supplies/commercial-warewashers.
London Cleans up
London won the most certificates in 2015, gaining 3,210 of the 40,646 given out to UK businesses alone. In second place was Edinburgh, which was awarded 732 certificates, with Glasgow in third place with 452.
The Hall of Fame
2015 marked the fifth year of the Certificate of Excellence awards; as a result, TripAdvisor inducted some businesses into a special Hall of Fame. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, businesses needed to have been awarded a Certificate of Excellence in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. London once again cleaned up when it came to Hall of Fame inductees, with a total of 344. In second place was Edinburgh, with 145 inductees, while York came third with 61.
Globally, almost 30,000 companies were awarded Hall of Fame recognition for their excellence in hospitality.
Big UK winners included the Red Carnation Hotels chain, which won a total of 12 Hall of Fame awards across its portfolio. These included the Duke of Richmond in Guernsey, the Milestone Hotel in London and the Summer Lodge Country House in Dorset.
London has long been hailed as a world centre for the service industry and these awards, which are borne of public opinion and are held annually, are confirmation of this long-held view.
