While Mykonos is a great holiday destination for anyone, it is probably known best for its party atmosphere and its awesome nightlife. The young and trendy from all over Europe congregate in Mykonos each year to sample an island that never sleeps. The music is loud, the alcohol plentiful and the people are ready to party.
The Nightlife in Mykonos Town
In Mykonos town, even the shops, jewellers and supermarkets stay open until the early hours. The town is littered with bars, restaurants and cafes that are a perfect place to start the night. Many overlook the Aegean Sea which offers beautiful sunsets and a cool breeze that keeps the temperature just right. Whatever you are looking for, you can find it; some just want a casual bar to get them started for the evening, while others prefer to dress up in their best gear and go to the swankiest places in town.
A favourite spot amongst locals and tourists alike is the Caprice Bar in Mykonos Town. It offers a bohemian atmosphere and is considered one of the coolest places around as the party always seems to be in full swing there. Just as popular are the nearby Semeli, Galleraki, Scappa and Veranda bars, though the feel of those places tends to be a little more mainstream.
Located in a quaint building in Little Venice, the Veranda Bar has an old veranda that you can sit on and enjoy one of the most spectacular sunsets over the Aegean you will ever experience; meanwhile you will also avoid being crushed by other party goers, something that is rare in the aptly named Little Venice. Other places allow you to sit out in the street and watch the crowds go by which can be a great experience as the atmosphere is enjoyed by all who visit and everybody there just wants to have a good time.
The Nightlife on Mykonos Beaches
When the early hours come, many of the more mature holidaymakers start to drift back to their hotels, whereas those that are younger (or at least younger at heart) tend to head to the beaches to keep the party going.
Unsurprisingly, the beach bars on Mykonos stay open through the night and it truly is a place where the party never stops. When the early afternoon comes, the party gets started with many beaches providing music and even sponsored events. By around 1am, the beaches are packed with party goers and as Mykonos is one of the most cosmopolitan places on earth, you never known who you will meet.
Situated a stone’s throw away from Paradise Beach are two of the best loved nightclubs in Europe. With built in swimming pools and beach volley ball courts, these open air venues attract thousands of visitors each year and host some of the best known DJs anywhere. However entrance is limited and expensive so most are content to spend the night on a beautiful stretch of beach, enjoying the loud music and party atmosphere until finally, the sun comes up and it’s time for sleep.
