The River Island Rihanna collection will be launching at London Fashion Week in February, 2013 and sees the singer come designer starting a new chapter in her career.
RiRi, who had a very productive 2012 has made it clear that she’s an ambitious young lass and her latest project is testament to this. She produced the Sky Living reality show, Styled to Rock, a version of which will be reaching US audiences later this year. And now with her River Island line hitting the London Fashion Week catwalk next month she’s really laid down the gauntlet for industry cross-pollination this year.
River of Dreams
You’d expect an actress, TV producer, fashion designer and multi award-winning singer, to be at least a quarter of a century old, but 24 year-old, Barbadian, Rihanna seems unrestricted in her ability to branch out, artistically. Her latest hobby sees her turning to fashion design and what more could you ask for than your first attempt being in collaboration with High Street fashion label, River Island and being showcased during one of the biggest fashion weeks in the world. Rihanna acknowledges the fact that having the unveiling of this collection at a special show during London Fashion Week is an incredible bonus, one which she describes as a dream come true.
She’s not the first singing sensation to have gone the fashion route, however. She does join the extremely high-profile (and experienced) ranks along with the likes of Jessica Simpson, Kanye West, Victoria Beckham, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, who have all produced their own successful lines. RiRi expressed how she is particularly excited to see the reactions of her fans and the other authorities in the industry.
It was back in July 2012 when it was first announced that Rihanna would be teaming up with River Island to release the line. There has only been speculation as to what the marriage between her and River Island will produce, but some of her recent personal choices have seen her go all 90’s hip-hop with a sexy twist, so can we expect more tom boyish street style? Unfortunately the official unveiling of the collection on 16th of February at London Fashion Week is an invite-only affair but come March 5th you can get your hands on the items in store or online.
