Band names are a critical piece to the puzzle. Regardless of genre or talent, the name of a band must be chosen wisely. It must be fun to say. It shouldn’t distract from the music, or set an unrealistic expectation. Band names are a company’s name, slogan and motto all rolled into one. Here are the top insect-related band names of all time.
Scorpions – The Scorpions lived up their name in every sense of the word. The screaming guitars of the 80’s and rocket vocals of Klaus Meine have lit stages on fire for over 40 years. The band’s most well-known hit, “Rock You Like A Hurrican” was as hard hitting of a ballad at the time as any. The band, originally from Germany, has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, and still performs to this day. True to their name, the titles of the albums reflected the scorpion lifestyle most appropriately – Virgin Killer, Blackout, Love at First Sting, Pure Instinct, Sting in the Tail and Live Bites. Giant robotic scorpions were even built for their live tours that took up center stage and unfolded before the audience, stinger and all. Any and all Scorpions memorabilia depicts the image of scorpions with a no apologies attitude.
Papa Roach – Formed in Vacaville, CA, Papa Roach debuted their first album, Infest, in 2000. I mean, how fitting is that name? The name seemed to fit their musical style quite nicely. Roaches are big. They are a bit of a brut. They are not all that sophisticated. Papa Roach’s music sounds about like the way roaches live, a bit chunky and abbrasive. Careless. Regardless of double meaning, Papa Roach makes the list for staying true to the name.
Flea – Considered possibly the greatest bassist of all time, Michael Balzary aka Flea, is a founding member of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers. Although he may not be considered even a one-man-band, Flea has been around the block numerous times with various musical groups, founded a non-profit music educational organization, collaborated with some of the most well-known artists in the industry, appeared in over two dozen TV or movie titles and is ranked #2 on Rolling Stone’s “Readers Pick The Top Ten Bassists Of All Time”. While real fleas lead a rather simple and boring life, Flea the man has proven to be as renaissance and versatile as they come.
And, the top spot for best pest control related bands (or musicians) of all time goes to…
The Beatles – Quite possibly the greatest and most influential band in the history of music, The Beatles came to us from England in the early 1960’s. The four fresh faces of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr literally caused mobs in the street. Over the years, their music would morph from fun, bubble gum tunes, to slow, melodic and rather eccentric renditions. The Beatles are the best selling band in history with over one billion albums sold.
