Using Table And Spline Commands In AutoCAD 2013

In our earlier article, we have learned Ellipse and Polygon commands from the Draw toolbar. In this article we will learn the Table and Spline command from the Draw toolbar.

Using Table Command:

Most of the time when adding details regarding any drawing (for example details of material used, windows and door sizes and many other details) we have to create a Table for writings. The Table  command becomes handy in that case. This command can be selected in many ways. First is by clicking on the icon, second by writing ‘TAB’ on the command line and thirdly by using the Draw drop down menu and selecting Table sub menu.

After we select the command a popup window labeled as Insert Table will appear as shown in the image below.

This popup window contains five sub options labeled as Table style, Insert options, Insertion behavior, Column & row settings and Set cell style.

Under Table style select:

Standard

Under Insertion options select the radio button labeled as:

Start from empty table

Note: If you have a table which is in MS-Excel format then select radio button labeled as.

From a data link

Select Specify window radio button under Insertion behavior sub option, so that a table according to the drawing size can be created by taking a window of appropriate size.

Under Column & row settings sub option set as below:

Columns: 2, Column width: 2.5

Data rows: 5, Row height: 1.5

And finally under Set cell styles you can set first, second and all other rows cell styles according to your desire.

Using Spline Command:

If you want to create smooth curves that passes through or near the given points then Spline  command is the exact choice. This command can be selected in many ways. First is by clicking on the icon, second by writing ‘SPL’ on the command line and thirdly by using the Draw drop down menu and selecting Spline sub menu.

In the image shown above, we have used Spline command to make the edges smooth. The procedure is very simple. Select the Spline command. And just pick the rough edge points one by one.

Command: _spline

Current settings: Method=Fit   Knots=Uniform

Specify first po— — [——/——–/————]:

Enter next po— — [———-/———-/Undo]:

Enter next po— — [———-/———-/Undo]:

Repeat the command for the all remaining points.

And in the last select the Close option by writing ‘C’ on the command line.

Enter next point or [—————————-/Close]: c

And after erasing the guided lines and filling the pool with the water (by using Gradient command) the final result will be as shown in the image below.

While using Spline command Fit sub option is selected by default, we can edit this by selecting the Spline object and clicking on the arrow as shown the below image.

And the sub option labeled as Control Vertices can be selected for further editing of the Spline. And at this point I have almost completed the Modify and Draw toolbar. And all the information given up to this article is sufficient for a beginner to dig deep into the AutoCAD 2013. And now I will focus on some advance topics related to AutoCAD 2013.
