Now that 2012 is well and truly in the past, the world waits with baited breath for the arrival of the next Royal baby. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced in late 2012 that they are expecting their first child, which is due to be born in 2013. However, the UK is already in the middle of a baby boom.
This most recent boom has been blamed on factors such as the overwhelming popularity of the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ trilogy of books and the economic downturn meaning people are staying in to make their own entertainment. However, there is more to it than this. People like to emulate what celebrities are doing, and there is no doubt that the showbiz world has seen an increase in the number of babies being born over 2012. A Royal baby is just the icing on the cake.
2012 saw the arrival of a significant number of celebrity babies. From Blue Ivy Carter, daughter of Beyonce and Jay Z, who was born into glamour and glitz in January 2012, to singer Adele’s baby who was born in October in a shroud of mystery and a call for privacy to be respected.
January 2012 also saw the dramatic birth of Hollie Rose Hughes, daughter of Amanda Holden. Hollie was born early following a traumatic birth in which Amanda was extremely poorly and lost a lot of blood. Shockingly, Amanda was back in work at the filming of Britain’s Got Talent within a matter of weeks of the birth.
Other long awaited celebrity babies were born, including Theodora Williams, daughter of singer Robbie Williams and his wife Aida.
In May, US pop singer Jessica Simpson gave birth to a daughter, interestingly named Maxwell. However, before 2012 was officially over, Jessica announced a second pregnancy and posted a photograph of her growing bump on social networking site Twitter. Reportedly, Jessica has put a multi-million dollar contract with Weight Watchers US in jeopardy by piling on the pounds again through being pregnant.
As 2012 drew to a close, attention turned towards celebrity babies due to be born in 2013. The shock announcement, which in some circles will be on a par with a Royal birth, was the announcement that Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Kanye West are expecting their first child in 2013. Kim, as a US reality TV star has her every move followed and Kanye is one of the biggest musical artists in the world. There are bound to be ups and downs with this pregnancy.
