Package things properly
When sending a parcel it’s important to package it properly. If you’re sending a fragile item, wrap it securely in bubble-wrap to ensure it does not get broken in transit. Place your item in a box; make sure the item fits snugly in the box to avoid it rattling around during delivery. If there are any gaps, fill them with more bubble-wrap, newspaper or foam balls to fully ensure your item is protected. Use some heavy duty tape to securely seal the box and taking a marker pen, clearly write in capitals, the address you’re sending the parcel to.
Think about collection times
You can specify a time for the parcel delivery company to collect your parcel; this allows you to arrange a time that’s convenient for you. If you work full-time, Monday to Friday, you may want to arrange a pick-up time for early in the morning, late at night, or even at the weekend. The company will collect the parcel from your home, meaning that you don’t have to spend your precious spare time waiting in the post office queue.
Not only that; having your parcels delivered by reputable, well-known companies is often a much cheaper and faster way of sending an item. There are different tariffs available depending on whereabouts in the world you’ll be sending it to. For example, sending a parcel to Australia will cost more than sending one to France, purely because it’ll have to travel much further to reach its destination.
So you’ve chosen a time for pick-up and delivery, now all you have to do is pay. As with most services, you will be required to pay in advance. Company websites will give you a choice of different payment methods, and you simply have to click on the link and you’ll be directed to a secure page where you’ll enter in your details.
It’s customary to pay with a debit or credit card. Simply enter in the full name of the cardholder as it appears on the card, the long number on the front, the three digit security code (found on the reverse side), the expiry date and the billing address. There is always a handy information box provided as you go through each field, in case you require any assistance.
Many people are now opting to use PayPal instead of a debit or credit card. They feel that PayPal is a more secure method of payment. With PayPal, none of your financial details are ever displayed, and there’s a built in protection scheme, allowing you to get all of your money back, should anything go wrong with your purchase. What’s more, all you need is your email address and password, saving you from having to search through your purse or wallet for your card.
