If you travel for business or pleasure frequently, you may be wondering how you can keep up with your New Year’s goals to stay healthy and fit throughout the coming years. However, traveling doesn’t have to put a damper on your work out plan. The following are some ideas to help you maintain a healthy fitness regimen even when you’re on the road for business or pleasure.
You can start by choosing your accommodations wisely and select a hotel that has a fitness room on the premises. From the best hotels in Houston to those in New York City, accommodations often have in-house fitness centers with a variety of top-of-the-line exercise equipment. Most in-house gyms include treadmills, elliptical machines, weight machines and free weights. Check the hours of the fitness center and plan your schedule accordingly. Many hotels have an indoor and outdoor pool in their facility also. Swimming is an excellent cardio workout for people of all ages. If you’re visiting a warm destination, you can take advantage of the good weather and plan an outside workout. However, if you’re traveling to a cooler climate, you can still get in a few laps at the indoor swimming pool.
2. Scenic Destinations
If you’re traveling somewhere scenic, you can take advantage of your surroundings. Why not begin your day with a run along the beach or hike a mountainous trail. Other activities can include rafting, kayaking, bike riding or rock climbing. Healthy travelers can also opt to walk to a restaurant or museum instead of taking a cab or limo.
3. Visit the Local Gym
If you have a pass to a fitness facility at home, you can check and see if they have a gym in the location that you will be traveling. This is a great way to stay on track with your workout plan and keep the pounds off while on vacation in a familiar environment.
4. Eat Healthy
Heading out of town on business or pleasure can make it a challenge for most to eat healthy. Skip the hotel gift shop for snacks and fast food establishments. There are a wide variety of options travelers have to select from and most restaurants have menu options for those that want to follow a healthy diet. You can also keep healthy snack items in your hotel room by visiting a local market and stocking up on fruits, nuts, yogurt and vegetables. Weight Watchers points system makes it easy to watch your portions since most dining establishments offer their customers meals that can often serve two or more people.
5. Drink Plenty of Water
Finding the time to drink plenty of water during the day at home can be difficult. However, travelers can find it even more of a challenge to drink a sufficient amount of water when traveling. To make sure you stay properly hydrated, you can carry a bottle of water with you at all times. This is especially important if you’re sweating and doing a great deal of physical activity throughout the day.
Staying in shape while traveling can be easy if you set time aside each day for some sort of physical activity. Any form of exercise such as biking, walking through a museum, strolling through a park after dinner or jogging along the beach are suitable activities ideal for vacation or business travelers.
